How class select works
- Join the experience and stay in the lobby.
- Open the Classes shop panel.
- Select Explorer, Chef, Medic, Lumberjack, Ninja, or Vampire. Explorer is free; the others use the Gem prices above.
- To unlock Engineer, purchase it for 399 Robux instead of Gems.
- Equip the class before you start the floating-chunk run.
Gems come from Badge quests, biome crates, and run payouts. Promo codes are not filling that gap right now—see the Codes Hub for October 2026 status and farming notes.
Explorer (free)
Explorer is the no-cost starting point. Wooden Sword, Wooden Pickaxe, and Wooden Axe cover melee, mining, and chopping at the lowest tier. Use Explorer to learn daylight building, night defense, void edges, and hunger without gambling currency. When the basics click, graduate using the roadmap on the tier list.
Chef (75 Gems)
Chef is built around food management. Three extra Cooked Meat plus 30% slower hunger drain give you room to place campfires, cook batches, and explore a second biome chunk before panic eating. Ideal when your deaths are starvation-shaped rather than combat-shaped.
Medic (75 Gems)
Medic opens with two bandages and 10% faster healing. Nights and hunter raids deal chip damage even behind walls; faster recovery shortens downtime between waves. Choose Medic if you already cook fine but bleed out during messy kites.
Lumberjack (150 Gems)
Lumberjack skips early axe upgrades with an Iron Axe and adds 10% chop speed. Expanding floating real estate is a wood problem as much as a bravery problem—more platforms mean safer rod placement, wider farms, and better kite loops for raids covered in Bosses and Raids.
Ninja (150 Gems)
Ninja’s 10% move speed and 20% dodge chance are why the tier list parks it in S-tier. Floating chunks punish slow strafes; dodge procs turn lethal hits into teachable moments. No flashy starter item is listed—the passives are the product.
Vampire (300 Gems)
Vampire commits you to a meat diet, lets you sustain from kills, and unlocks a 3x sword strike once the blood bar is full. It shines in dense combat once you can keep meat cooked and bosses spawned. Do not buy it as a bandage for not understanding Bones or wall timing—those skills still gate Day 100.
Engineer (399 Robux)
Engineer is the Robux lane: extra crossbow for early ranged defense and 50% cheaper crafting-level requirements. Every gated station and chunk recipe resolves sooner, which compounds into earlier totems and day multipliers on the Survive 100 Days route. Pick Engineer when you would rather spend money than Gem-grind and when infrastructure—not raw melee—is your bottleneck.
Synergy with materials and bosses
Classes multiply actions; they do not delete material gates:
- Boss chunks still need Bones — How to Get Bones
- Later desert bosses still need Artifacts — How to Get Artifact
- Totems and raids still need clean base layout — Bosses and Raids
A Ninja who never leaves the starter chunk will still lose to scaled nights. Use class power to reach the material guides faster, not to ignore them.
Practical loadout tips
- Equip the class in lobby every session; do not assume the last run’s choice stuck.
- After buying a Gem class, play at least one sober run before judging it—learn the new passive windows.
- In co-op on 15-player servers, diversify: one Lumberjack expander plus one Ninja or Vampire clearer beats four Explorers staring at the same tree.
- After any studio patch, re-read this table and the Updates Hub.
